2004 got off to a cool start and we had some rain near the end of February. Early spring was very warm, sometimes reaching temperatures in the 90’s. Summer was a bit cooler than normal, which gave us some concern about grape maturation. However, with a few heat spikes in September, our grapes developed nicely. Our first harvest produced 2 tons per acre.
A lovely deep ruby color in the glass, this is an elegant wine. On the nose you’ll find hints of leather, tobacco, mushrooms and white pepper. The palate opens smoothly, revealing flavors of plum, berries and a hint of fennel. The structure is excellent, with soft and refined tannins and well balanced acidity.
The versatility of the 2004 Syrah means it can be paired with a wide variety of foods, from lighter dishes like pastas and sautéed sole, to more substantial entrees like roasted chicken and roast beef.
The wine is wonderful now, it will continue to benefit from aging for another 5-10 years.$38 PER BOTTLE
